The Fela! Mosaic Mural Program, sponsored by DTE Energy Foundation, was a community wide program designed to educate the public about the impact of Fela Kuti's work on his country and the world, and highlight DTE Energy’s commitment to promoting diversity and eliminating racism. Participants were given the opportunity to become stakeholders in the effort to eliminate social injustice in the Metro Detroit community, the country or the world.
The 6'x4' mosaic mural is made up of 2,000 artworks, contributed by local high school students and DTE Energy employees and reflects the important themes that participants learned. The mosaic mural is currently on display at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, MI.
Participants are be able to access the mosaic mural online in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, and see how their artwork fits into the "big picture" as well as the artist’s statement that they wrote. |
