Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, surrounded by hundreds of Michigan K-8 students

The first of 52 murals to be created across the country, the giant 15'x20' mural contains over 14,000 artworks created by thousands of K-8 students across Michigan. "Every student had the opportunity to spend some time appreciating the beauty of nature, share their views on why it is important to preserve the earth's resources and take action by creating art that carried that message." said Deborah Rubyan, Founder and CEO of Project S.N.A.P. during her opening remarks. "They experienced how their own creative idea, expressed in a single drawing, helped create a giant mural, transforming the unique voices of children into a symphony of images."

Roy Feinson, Art Director at Project S.N.A.P. creates the giant mosaic murals through a series of steps that include art and technology. "It's all about the artworks created by the students. They are sending a message through their art. The mosaic mural is the vehicle through which their messages are communicated both individually and as the 'big picture'."

Project S.N.A.P. will be creating giant mosaic murals across the country and is collecting artworks from K-8 students from every state including the capital and the U.S. Territories. The program is free, and any school or K-8 student is invited to participate.

Project SNAP Announces Mural Plans

Discussion of moral Plans

Plans to help change the world are taking shape as Project S.N.A.P. opens its doors to artworks created by K-8 students across the country. In the wake of the highly successful opening of the Michigan Mural at the Detroit Science Center, the next 51 mosaic murals are in sight. Invitations to administrators and teachers across the country have been sent out to invite schools to participate in this unique program. Project S.N.A.P., under the direction of noted mosaic artist Roy Feinson, will create 52 giant, 15'x20' mosaic murals from drawings created by K-8 students in every state.

Teachers, Administrators, PTA/PTO leaders and other school professionals are needed to coordinate state efforts including helping with getting the word out to teachers, and location selection for the final mosaic mural in your state. Project SNAP Limited Edition Posters Now Available

Piucture of poster

Project S.N.A.P. has released its new online access for purchasing the limited edition state mosaic mural posters. The State of Michigan Project S.N.A.P. Mosaic Mural is the first of 52 state murals now available for purchase. These beautiful 22"x28", full color, collectible posters are guaranteed to include the artwork of any student who orders the poster. "This unique program gives everyone another opportunity to collaborate and be part of the "big picture," says Project S.N.A.P. Founder and CEO Deborah Rubyan. "Even students who did not participate through their schools can still submit artwork to Project S.N.A.P. and have their artwork be included in a limited edition poster of any state mural they choose."

The magic is the result of the artistry of Project S.N.A.P. Art Director Roy Feinson who has offered to make it possible for every single student in the country to be part of any state mural. "The idea that we can bring together students from across states and the country to be part of the statewide and national program is our vision," remarked Feinson. "Any student anywhere has a unique voice and can combine that voice with those of others to send a message about why it is important to take care of the earth."

The proceeds from the sales of each poster has another very powerful benefit. For every poster sold, Project S.N.A.P. will donate $4 to the schools that had students purchase a poster. "We invite students, teachers, principals and districts across the country to be part of our big picture," says Rubyan. "We want to be part of their big picture too and help schools to fund special programs that are so important to their students' education."

Project S.N.A.P. Presents an Award to Bird Elementary

The day that the first Project S.N.A.P. State Mosaic Mural was unveiled at the Detroit Science Center, another very special event was about to begin. That afternoon, administrators, students, parents and teachers from Nellie E. Bird Elementary in Plymouth, Michigan gathered in the gymnasium for another momentous occasion, the unveiling of the Bird Elementary Mosaic Mural Lithograph created by Project S.N.A.P. Art Director Roy Feinson. "We wanted to recognize the commitment and generosity of everyone at the school including the Principal, students and teachers for their outstanding contributions as the pilot school for Project S.N.A.P."

When Jane Van Steenis, Principal of Bird Elementary learned about Project S.N.A.P., she welcomed the opportunity to offer her students a chance to participate as the pilot school for the program. Deborah Rubyan, Founder and CEO of Project S.N.A.P. attended that first meeting. "When I met with Jane Van Steenis and her wonderful art teacher Kathy Levi, I knew we were in good hands. They were both very helpful in organizing the Project S.N.A.P. Mosaic Mural Program at Bird."

The lithograph includes every drawing collected from Bird Students during the 2005-2006 school. Then, through the magic of Roy Feinson's mosaic artistry, the pictures were organized to create this one of a kind lithograph. "We wanted to bring the lithograph to the students personally so that we could express our appreciation for their creativity and their collaboration. Their unique voices were combined to form one voice expressing the importance of taking care of the earth."

There is a very special message that is contained on the lithograph below the mosaic. "TEAMWORK - "A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Meade. The lithograph is currently on display at Bird Elementary.

Project S.N.A.P. Art Director, Featured Artist at Grammy's 50th Anniversary

When the Grammy's began making plans for their upcoming 50th anniversary, they wanted an artist who could bring together 50 years of music history in an accessible and exciting way. Project S.N.A.P. Art Director, Roy Feinson was the ideal choice and the Grammy's choice him as the official artist of the Grammy's 50th Anniversary Award Show.

Feinson, who recently completed a hugely successful series of large installations for Disneyland's 50th anniversary, wanted to do something that had never been done before. "I decided to do something in a free-form fashion, which emulated a musical jam session."

Using thousands of photos from previous Grammy moments, Feinson is fashioning a large free-form mosaic by arranging photos of varying sizes and angles in seemingly haphazard way. Much like musicians playing different instruments in a seemingly hodge-podge way, the arrangement only comes together to reveal its message when the viewer steps back. The artwork will be used for the cover of the Grammy Magazine, Grammy posters, T-Shirts, press-announcements, and will be used as a backdrop to Grammy interviews. Feinson is also creating software to create a series of mosaic video presentations for the Grammy's.
